hey guys i built up a 350 makin some good power and put a carb on it instead of the tbi and wut a bad idea. i hate carb so much its crazy, maybe its me but is there anythign i can do cause i can; take going out to my car and haveing to wait for 10 mins for it to warm up be4 i can even drive cause somtime i am ina rush and i don;t have the time. and why are carbs so much worse on gas then fuel injection? i get liek 5 miles to the gallon and it sucks. i am so fed up with this stupid car i am about to sell it and buy a civic so please help me

i would think you should be getting better than that for mileage.have you set the idle mixture with a vacuum gauge? with a choke the car should be able to drive quicker than that too. does the choke close completely?

nah never with a vac guage, um yea the choke closes completly but if i start it up and try to move it as soon as i touch the gas and let off it wunts to stall, its liek the choke doesn't uwnna work after that. i thought u shoulkd be able to drive and when u stoped it would just be at high idle but i guess thats just fuel injection?

yeah well your choke isn't working properly. is it an automatic choke or a manual? and edelbrock carbs are notorious for running really bad cold. I had a 650 on my Buick, and it would cough spit and chug when it was cold, not to mention barely idle. I tore it off and tossed on a q-jet at any rate it sonds like something is way wrong.

first off pull your plugs out, see how they look. sounds like you might have a few mixture issues. that damn carb would run like **** if the idle circuits were off by a 1/4 turn. obviuosly your high idle is set way to low, if it is even working at all. jump that up so it runs at about 1500 when its kicked, then adjust the choke as needed. depending on how your plugs look, you'll probably need to change the jets. either way carbs are way better then TBI, so your better off fighting with the carb.

how does it drive anyway, does it kick and sputter or backfire at all? anything to that effect? where did you get this carb anyway?

I pulled my TBI when I did my motor swap and Im glad I did. Runs so much better IMO. Your carb isnt running right...I get decent milage + I can get in my car when its 20 degrees out hit the key once without touching the gas and it starts...I can then drive it. Wont run to its potential till its warm of course but runs alright. I have a holley street avenger carb if that matters. If you hate the carb throw that TBI back on there...youll be lucky if it runs at all with the 305 chip and injectors......gotta run out buy a new ignition module, knock sensor, injectors, chip.

Also did you put a fuel pressure regulator in the line anywhere?? You have to regulate the fuel down when doing this swap.

i had a edelbrock on a truck i had with a manual choke and had no problems, the choke is some of your probs. hook up a vacuum gauge to the vacuum port on the carb and adjust the idle mixture screws on the front of the carb to get your highest signal, i would think you could get 13" vacuum with that cam.then set your idle , i would check your timing with alight if you done it already

yea i have a regulator and its set at 5psi, the car runs great whens it warmed up, a little rich sometimes but no big deal, its just when its cold i have this prob, it idles at leik 1300 in the morn and goes up gradually to liek 1800 ove rlie 5 mins for some reason, but it seems like if i start it up and it runs fine and instantly i touch the gas the choke turns off and opens up like its warm way to quick. could somthing be wrong with that little vacum port thats on the choek or somthing? its electric by the way and its a edelbrock 750 and i put the electric choke on

when you touch the gas you are kicking the hi idle off. after 5 min it should be warmed up enough to run. with an electric choke there should be ablack plasticcover on the choke you can loosen the housing up and turn it , it should say to lean or richen- maybe that will help

89formula, it's not the carbs fault if you don't tune it. i'm running more motor than you with a 750 holley and i don't even use a choke(yes, i'm in NJ too). get your car in tune and get the carb setup and you shouldn't have a problem

the car is tuned awsome, i have no problems except the choke.
I though that with an electric choke u could start the car in the cold and go instanly(not that I would) and when u stoped at say the first red light or something it would hold the engine at high idle still, liek it woudl fall back down on the fast idle cam. But I am starting to thik that its just choked as long as u let the car sit and if u take off and stop at that first red light the car has no choke and wunts to stall or idle rally low. now isd this correct? cause i have turn thats black cap in every directiona nd spot u can think of

well, give into your stated desire and sell that car. it seriously sounds like you should give up and sell that hooptie cheap, preferably to me, for the portly sum of $340.68 or we could do it the easy way and just run for titles.
