Fuel Pump selection for Q-jet?
I'm just wondering what a good mechanical fuel pump is to use on a ~350hp 350 with ccc Q-jet. I am hoping to retain the return line since it's there to reduce fuel temp and prevent vapor lock.
Any ideas? Is the return line really necessary? What are some of the rest of you running?
Thanks
Pete

Well, I am going to try running the stock replacement pump from the l59 which seems to be the same as the lg4 pump. If it doesnt give enough fuel I have seen where it was suggested by Damon I believe to run a low pressure carter inline electric pump before it. If the return line is still there you can feed it more fuel without a problem I would think. From everything I have read quadrajets dont like fuel pressure though, just volume.

The stock L69 pump is enough to power my 400 with big heads, 282 roller cam, 800 CFM Holley, blah blah blah.... I have no doubt it will do just fine on a little motor like a 350.

Thanks for your help guys. I didn't realize the stock L69 pump flowed that much fuel. Actually Ben L69's already a booster pump in the tank. But thats a good point, flow could be increased behind it with an aftermarket electric pump. I guess I'll start with a stock set-up. Any particular supplier for a new L69 mechanical pump?
Thank
Pete

Yes, I did realize that the l69's had a pump in the tank, but didnt know if you had a l69 or lg4. I had the lg4 so I dont have an in tank pump. I figure if I need more fuel than just the mechanical pump alone will provide, I will use an aftermarket inline pump.

My '86 LG4 donor car did not have the in-tank electric pump.
I'm running an AC replacement pump with no fuel delivery problems in 3 years. The original which was on the engine when I got the donor car was a different story, although it didn't look all that old.

My 84' LG4 does not have an in tank pump. My stock fuel pump was spraying oil under the hood, and I replaced it with a high volume chrome mallory one as I plan on a blower in the next few years and figured why not. I dont have the return line with it, it runs fine, although my cheap gauge says it runs 9-10 lbs of pressure which is high i think, but Im not sure if I should drop fuel pressure with a regulator or what.
