holley on performer intake
i want to put a holley carb on my performer intake. i have a performer carb on it right now. i heard you have to use a different gasket for it to seal with anything other than a performer carb. do you have to?

Edelbrock makes an adapter for fitting a holley to the performer,
It's just a piece of thick sheet metal that covers up the gaps.

Depends which performer you're talking about. The 2101 needs an adapter the RPM doesn't cause the 2101 is designed for the spreadbore.

I may be totally off-base, but both the Performer carb and Holley are square-base carbs. The Performer intake manifolds are all made for square-base carbs - they bolt up the same, they mount the same, the gasket will be the same.
Why do you think an "adapter" is required?
Even the Performer RPM Q-jet mounts square-bore carbs. Per their website: "Carb pad will accept square-bore carbs without adapters."
I would use a new gasket, because the carb bases will have different passage patterns (which get impressed into the gasket with time), but that's the only reason a "different" gasket is needed.

I suppose it's possible that I'm incorrect about that.
My own performer is an older design that closely resembles the current Weiand 8004 and it needed an adapter because the base of the holley carb didn't allow enough sealing area over the manifold's mounting surface designed for the wide spacing of the spreadbore's secondaries. Edelbrock has changed the design of their performer since and perhaps they've made it narrower in back to seal better without an adapter.
I was just browsing through the Edelbrock catalog a little while ago and I noticed that the adapter is still available though. It's very possible that it's intended for the older style 2101 only.
Sorry about the misinformation

I believe the Performers that are on the market now have bolt holes for both kinds of carbs & you just use the ones you need.
