car stalling with holley carb

hey guys i need some help here. ive got a 355 with a 216/228 cam and a victor intake and also a 750 Dp carb. i took the car out last night since its finally running good and the car stalled first off when i had to make a really quick stop, and then also just when it was sitting there. in park and neutral it sits and idles great and goes into gear wiht no problem, but for some reason when its been run for a while and i go to stop it wants to die. at idle in park i have 14 degrees base timing, and about 18 in hg. in gear the vacuum is about 12. also my idle in park is 800 and in gear like 750, and my power valve is a 6.5. thank you guys i really appreciate this.

I would assume that it stalled because your brake booster is hooked up to the rear of the carb. Try bumping the idle up a little more in park. Im curious why your idle is only dropping from 800 in park to 750 in drive. In my experience the idle will typically drop about 150 (mine is 1100 in park and 800 in drive).

Also check for some vacuum leaks around the carb. You may have a small leak and when you are breaking the brake booster is taking more vacuum leaving the carb starving for air.

vacuum is hooked up to the intake not the carb, there are no leaks anywhere my vacuum gauge stays steady and doesnt bounce. as for the idle i have a loose stall convertor maybe thats why it doesnt move alot.

Try raising the float levels a small amount...you may be getting fuel slosh and uncovering the jets.I had the same problem and this seemed to help.

At idle the jets aren't really doing anything much, my first guess is a float level too high--at any rate check the float level and adjust. Check the idle mixture and adjust. After it dies, check the exhaust for raw fuel(black smoke) indicating flooding. Keep in mind that the carb may not be to blame, you could have a short somewhere in the ignition system.

float level too high.
Also hook up a fuel pressure guage and check for pressure creep.
