what cam/intake for my carbed 305?
what cam/intake would allow me to get the most out of my stock motor...keep in mind though...everythings stock except for the carb (electric choke edelbrock 600cfm) heads and everything else are stock...dont know when i'll be gettin new heads, but ive heard of some nice power increase by switching to another cam/intake

The Edelbrock Performer RPM works great on the 305. Just block off the exhaust crossover passage with some epoxy or silicone and you're all set.
As for cams the LPE-216 is nice in a 305. The only thing there is that you need to change your 1986 engine to run a hydraulic roller camshaft. You'll need aftermarket hydraulic roller lifters and a different timing gear set with a cam button to control endplay of the camshaft. It costs more to go roller, but it will be worth it. The cam and all associated equipment will swap right over to most other chevy smallblocks later if you decide on a bigger engine.
here's a little more info on those parts.

Go cheap with the cam, so you're not out much when you get another motor. There are many cam/lifter packages for under $100 that will do you just fine, rather than spending $800 for a lingenfelter cam and all the retrofit-roller gear. Something like the 214/224 Summit brand cam is fine.

Will the Edelbrock Performer fit under the hood of a thirdgen?

$315 and expect to spend another $300 for lifters & timing gear.
You'll also want to get new valvesprings and modify your heads to take higher cam lifts, but It will be worth it to go with a great roller cam.
