The computer sends commands to the EGR solenoid. If the computer doesn't sense the presence of the solenoid, it will turn on the "Service Engine Soon" light and set a trouble code. If you keep the solenoid plugged in electrically, it with be fat, dumb, and happy.
The ignition advance curve is calibrated assuming the EGR valve is doing what it is supposed to do. Without it, you may have pinging at part throttle loaded conditions.
Any intake that isn't made to mount a spread-bore carb like the q-jet will require an adapter. This raises the height of the air cleaner, but beyond that (and the general yuckiness of adapters), no particular problems.
