TV Cable problems with Holley...

After much debate, I decided to post this here, rather than on the tranny board...sorry if I came to the wrong conclusion...

After replacing the TBI on my car with a Holley 650 double pumper, I haven't been able to get the transmission to act right. There were two holes on the bottom of the Holley throttle linkage and I've tried both holes. With the TV cable in one hole, the tranny shifts waaay too soft and waaay too early. In the other one it's waaay too hard and waaay too late. Just wondering what you other TBI->Carb people have done to get it working right. I'd really rather not spend $150 for the TV made EZ kit...

You need the braket that holley makes to use there 4150/4160 carbs.

Part # from summit is HLY-20-95 and cost $17.95

a bracket wouldn't change the geometry of the hole in the throttle arm. if that were the case u could just adjust the length of the throttle cable and get the same results. i just puit in my new engine with a 650 dp holly and the tranny does shift a little soft. the only thig i could see doing is drilling a new hole in the throttle arm where it is in the stock one. thats what ill probably do. why does it say it only does it with overdrive trannys though? if i keep in in drive (not OD) would it be ok then? thanks

No, the 700R4 and 200-4R use a throttle valve cable that partly replaces the function of the vacuum modulator on older automatics. Correct geometry is necessary to control the timing and firmness of the shifts. Without it you will be shifting early and soft or late and hard, neither of which is a good thing.
