need help picking a new carb
well i finally deciding to toss the computer crap. i'm looking at the edelbrock performer series carbs. to all of those who have this carb, do you like it. i also don't really know what size cfm i need. my setup is in my sig. i was looking at the 750 but i'm not sure if that is to much. i have the performer manifold right now but once i get the money i will probably be getting the rpm air gap intake. any suggestion would be great. also if anyone has any other carb that they like please feel free to let me know. thanks alot.

very disappointed with my edelbrock, it ran horrible, no matter how much tuning i did, finally threw in the towl and bought a demon when my friend's replacement edelbrock (replaced under warranty, other edelbrock was more defective) started leaking and resulted in an engine fire.
i'm very happy with the speed demon i bought, works VERY well, decided i was sick of my performer intake (got rid of everything edelbrock) and bought a weiand stealth, i think you'll find that weiand stealth and team g manifolds are very nice peices.

I think I'm going Holley too!!! I was looking at the Edelbrock Performer RPM Air Gap manifold though. Anyone have this? Also what is a comparable Weiand manifold or other brand?

If you read my thread about Holley carb size charts, and the one on the racing forum, you will find that I am a recent and full-fledged convert to double-pumpers. If those testimonials don't convince you, than I'll sell my now-unused 750 VS with Quick Fuel adjustable secondaries and 4150-conversion for a good price.

I got a Holley Street Avenger, and am very happy with it. Starts like a TPI car every time. Very easy to change jets, Etc. And has a 1,000,000 mile warranty.

talked to a tech guy from holley and he said that he would run a 700cfm double pumper with mechanical secondaries.

You've got a fairly mild cam, with corresponding intake & exhaust. His suggestion is a very safe one. You could probably handle a 750 double pumper, which would help if you do further upgrades in the future.

I was running a Holley 670 Street "Adventure"
and was happy with it until I decided to put on the Speed Demon 750. I'm extremely happy with the Demon compared to the Holley. Bought the Demon one day after a friend got it brand new in the box with the fuel line through some deal. I was going to wait to put it on the 350 but wanted to see how well it would run on a 305... ran damn good out of the box but much too rich, couple jet changes later and I'm getting 20 mpg on the highway and performing better than the Holley ever did.

EvilCartman,
would you mind emailing me and explaining the process of going from a QBERT-JET to a Speed Demon? I know there are things that need to be saved and some things that can be ditched, just haven't sit down with it long enought the think everything through and do the trial and error thing. I would appreciate any help that you might have.
By the way I have a 85 Z28,LG4, auto in WA so I have to keep the emissions crap for now.

Is gas mileage an issue? Since you have a 406, i'll assume its not, lol.
I'd use a Holley double pumper. I know Holleys are a little 'finiky' about their tune, but performance wise, a double pumper Holley (something like a 750cfm Dbl Pmpr) would be a good choice for your 406 "Monster Mouse"

Technically you'll get just as good gas milage with a mechanical secondary than you would with a vacuum. Its just that a vacuum secondary carb is a little more forgiving tune wise...

I run the Holley 670 Avenger carb and the Air Gap manifold and love it. This car didn't run this good with the original set up of the Q-jet and comp. distributor.
I have a 355 with KB pistons, Trick Flow heads, Crane cam, Hedman headers, and Dynomax exhaust system. The ignition system consists of a Proform dist. , MSD-6A box, Accel 300+ wires, firing Autolite plugs. Compression is about 9:8:1 and there is no detonation with 34 degrees of total timing and 16 intial.
The car starts right up without having to pump it, I just lightly touch the accel. pedal to set the choke. It fires up and idles at about 1100 rpm and idles down to about 650 rpm as the choke opens. I have no complaints at all about the Holley carb.
I haven't got any trck time on this combo yet but, the guy who did some work on the engine says if I get it hooked, it will run very well. I'll let you know when I do. But for now, the car is just a blast to drive and hammer on from time to time..

I'd use steel braided fuel line. I really like my 770 Street Avenger. This car is a beast! For the rest of the motor, read the signature.

Actually, they're still sitting in the garage. I plan to have them put on in the next two weeks. But the kit LOOKS awesome. (for $500.00, it should.) I wanted to run before I had them put on. I couldn't hook up worth ****(on good street tire)I'd ease off the line to avoid boiling the tires, and as soon as I hit second, the tires still go up in smoke. I'll post again after I have them put on.

Not at all. Bought them thru Summit. I think the whole kit was $469.00........ something like that. It come with subframes, a cross-piece (with new LCA's welded on one end) and a driveshaft loop. It looks very impressive.
