I know it will take the high pressure from the fuel injection pump down to carb pressure.

But will it keep a steady pressure? or does it Fluctuate?

I'm about to put the carb motor in and I'm trying to decide if I should get the Mallory 3-port or use a mechanical pump. My intank pump is brand new. If I use a mechanical FP can I just leave the stock pump in the tank and use it as a pick-up?

The Mallory keeps the pressure steady on my car and I have had no problems with it.

I don't know if the pressure fluctuates much if at all. I know I haven't had a problem with it once I managed to get it to stop leaking.

As far as using the stock pump as a pick-up I don't know. Some say yes and some say no, and I've never tried it myself.

The Mallory unit will not leak, as this is why it has a return line to the tank....

If you put on a mechanical fuel pump, it will not work by sucking through the electric fuel pump.... you'll have to drop the tank!

But as for steady pressure, these pumps came from the factory with a 50 psi rating.... I don't think she'll fluctuate at all, provided you have no leaks by the CARB.... or pressure leaks by the tank.

Just don't use rubber hose and hose clamps.

I did have a problem with the plugs on the regultor leaking even though I was running a return line. I managed to stop the leaks by using teflon tape made for gas lines.

Like what I hear so far. I'll probably go with the Mallory 3 port instead of a Mechanical pump.

Anything else I should know about hooking it up?

Just make sure you set the fuel pressure before starting the car. I heard of someone not doing that and it wasn't pretty.

i have a 750 holley vacuum secondaries on my stock LO5 with open exhaust. and i have a little surging when it starts up, but after it warms up it runs really good. the surging would probable go away if i put a choke on it though.
