open element vs, stock functional cowl air cleaner

I was wondering if anyone had much experience on which is better, the stock functional cowl setup with the single snorkel even though it's restrictive. or an open element with a removed cowl setup and just an open cowl even though it's getting alot more warm under hood air?

btw.

I have a new site with message board for those who are interested, there is a thirdgen section as well as others.

check it out if you would like. it's uncensored no language filters or regulated content.

Open element will flow so much better. Even tho you get hotter air its still better IMO.

I`ve been wondering the same question. I`m looking at buying an 83 TA and it also has the cowl ind. hood. Shoot, I was wondering if it even helped AT ALL, or if it`s mostly eye candy. I guess a few runs at the strip with it working/ not working would maybe answer that (I think!).

oh I can tell you that it does help alot, compared to the normal stock air cleaner because the cowl opens at the same time as the secondaries.

of course it also depends on which engine you are getting it with.

yeah it has a vaccum sensor, that triggers a cylenoid that opens the flap in the cowl, so it only opens under a certain amount of vaccum, which is usually as the secondaries open on the q-jet, if that's what setup you have it on.
