Go for an edelbrock and buy it new. They bolt on and run out of the box. I know, I had one on an old 79 C10 that had set for 4 years before I installed the carb. It had a 305 in it also. The edelbrock fired the engine up about the 2nd crank.

I just did the conversion from TBI and used a Holley, but that was for performance reasons, not for ease of install. Hint buy a new manifold. Performance Plus makes some dirt cheap units, warped manifolds suck, found out the hard way.

As for tuning it, go to edelbrock's website or look at the instructions included.
Make sure you have a bypass regulator before you start cutting things.

How did you take your air pump off? Did you remove the whole unit? If you did, you have to reroute the belt and change to a different belt.

If you just disconnected it, you need to plug the pipes leading to the exhaust manifold or you will be sucking air into the exhaust and screwing with your 02 sensor.

Unplugged A.I.R. tubes would make quite a racket.

Are you getting any SES lights?

I can't say I've got any personal experience with Edelbrock Performer carbs, but I also can't say I've heard much good about them from people who have had both a Performer and a Holley or Demon.

Don't forget you need a mechanical/vacuum advance distributor if you go carb, and some means to lock the torque converter if you have an auto tranny.

NO SES light, but im not going to worry about it because im going to carb. Im getting a 600cfm Holley Carb from AFBCamaro. Hes coming over to help with the install i got his complete old set up, accel distrib, holley carb, mallory reg. So how all goes well Im also gonna throw in some new plugs when i change out my carb, i think there shoot. Ill throw in some cheap champions or something... Also i guess leaving the ecu in and pulling the ses light will not lock up my convertor huh. LoL im just keeping it in there so i have a fuel pump i dont feel like ripping out my seats to hotwire it, and the starter relay./ lol
