Which intake should I get?

I am switching over my 85 vette from TPI to carb, even though all the TPI guys say this is a big mistake. Anyway I got a really good deal on a Holley 600 carb and an edelbrock torquer II intake. Is this a good combination or should I eventually get a dual plane intake? The 350 was just rebuilt and basically stock except long tube headers and I plan on putting a good sized cam into it and eventually new heads. I do like to autocross race and drag race and this is my daily driver so what intake do you guys reccomend.
I also just rebuilt my trans which shifts hard as $ell and has a 2400 torque converter.
Thanks for any advice.

The converter will help, but you'll still be below the power band of the intake. Assuming you have a stock TPI cam, it'll be a pretty poor match - idle-5000 for the cam, 2500-6500 for the intake. That leaves you with an effective power band of 2500-5000. For daily driving, it'll be quite a dog.

A dual plane like Action+ or Performer would be a better choice.

Carb's fine, though.

Its a good deal cause it didn;t work that great on the sellers car.

If you want a real good deal get a Performer RPM and a 750cfm carb.

i have the torker II on my car only cause it was a free hand-me-down from one of my dad's old race-cars. because of it's poor street manners and currently the lack of anykind of power band(poor cam/intake/converter combo), my dad has agreed to buy me a holley street dominator/avenger intake. which must mean that the torkerII intake sucks, cause my dad doesn't just outright buy me ANYTHING. normally i have to pay him back. but he just want to do this to be nice. the holley street dominator/avenger is the same intake he has on his 12/11 second car and it has great street manners too. can't beat a power range from idle-7200rpms!

Thanks for the input guys. What intake would fit under my stock hood? Would the Holley intake be too tall? Would the performer rpm intake fit? Thanks.

performer rpm and the holley intake are almost identical in dimensions, the holley intake fits under my stock hood with a 3" open element, but just barely, may be different from car to car. if hood clearance is an issue, also check out the wieand stealth ram and the performer intakes....

I am going to sell my RPM intake to my uncle because of hood clearance issues. I read from and heard from multiple sources a RPM intake will not fit under a stock hood. And I don't plan on changing hoods anytime soon so.

From what I've read the difference between the Torquer II and Performer RPM is 7/10 of an inch difference, which means I have to look into getting a air box that will fit that is 7 tenths of an inch shorter, if not my only options seem to be a performer or torquer II and the performer rpm might be a stretch. I've read about drop bases but how much do they drop???? I currently plan on using a summit air cleaner box, 3" with a drop base, hope it works.

put a dual plane on unless you plan to change the cam and torque converter...the performer will work just fine....

meh, I had good luck with the torker II on the 305, wasn't much different on the bottom than the regular performer. What I did notice was the upper RPM power was better. I ran it with a 2400 stall and my current 3000 stall converter. Got it for 40 bucks just to try out and it stayed on the 305.

Both the RPM and the Holley Street Dominator dual plane intakes will fit under your stock hood with room to spare. If you use the right air cleaner. search my posts.
A holley will require that you shorten or remove the choke horn when you use this air cleaner.

Its in the posts. key word L-88

Some one should do a sticky on this one cause I'm getting tired of posting on the same subject time after time.

Well I put the torquer II on and holley carb, I had to bend the summit air cleaner down in the middle and with a 3 inch filter it barely fits under my stock hood on my 85 corvette but it does fit.

do you have any idea how far a victor jr would stick out of a stock CORVETTE hood?

They're only 1/4 inch difference in height than the torker II I think.

Torker II 4.08"

Victor Jr 4.58"

Hummm bad memory strikes again. Ok, so it's only a half inch higher hehe.
