Need to tune but don't know how...

I need to do some tuning on my Carter AFB, but I don't know quite how to do it. I basically need to know the air-fuel ratio (rich/lean) and vacuum while driving the car in order to figure out what metering rods and springs I would need. I can't afford to get gauges to mount in the console, but I already have a vacuum gauge.

Also, until then, could I just throw in the old metering rods, springs, and needle seats that were on before I rebuilt the carb with a standard kit? Can I reuse the airhown gasket?

ajust carb

1For the idle, you need to set both idle mixture screw to get the maximum vaccum signal at your idle speed (around 650rpm) when the car is in drive if you got a automatic trans. Then you got the low and high step for the metering rods for this you will need to check your plug color White=lean black=rich brownish=ok to chec 2 the metering rods low step drive about 50 kmh for about 5 km with light throttle to keep the vaccum high then chec the plug...then ajust the rods & jets.3 for the high step your engine need to be in load so youll need to apply the max throttle just before the secondaries start to opens ...making a series of accleration is a good way then chec the plugs again....then ajust the rods & jets. For the secondaries barells (4BBl) makin a series of wot (wide open throttle) acceleration ...then chec the plugs again....then ajust the rear secondaries jets. For the meterings rods piston springs youshould put a medium tension spring,it usualy work good
