Post Your Carb'd Power #s

I figured since we have a lengthy motor pic thread we should have one with power numbers to help people compare and decide on different parts and mods.

So post your mods and dyno numbers(times if you want).

My disappointing numbers are

187hp 263tq rearwheel
226hp 316tq flywheel

Mods in sig

No scanner just a pic

Car: 1985 Firebird
Engine: 327
Transmission: TH350
589 peak hp at the flywheel w/acc. & exhaust.
Just over 300 ft/lbs torque

Moved a S10 real nice, in the middle of putting it in a '85 Firebird.

I shall get a better pic when I get a chance.

What are we setting up here, a liar's club?

No dyno slips, calculated HP from http://www.gordon-glasgow.org/hpcalc.html are 233 and 352 at the wheels, for the 305 & 396, respectively, from 1/4 mile ET & MPH and certified scales. That's approx. 292 & 440 crank, respectively.

Only reduced rate dyno opportunities I've had conflicted with other activites I had going on at the time (read: drag racing), and I've never felt the need to spend the coin on dyno time.

I ran my weight, ET and trap speed through your site and came up aqbout 25 hp less at the flywheel than what the actual dyno read. I figure the 25 hp discrepancy would explain the fact that I smoked my tires the first 100 feet. Remember, this was in my gutted S10, the Firebird is not completed yet so obviously times will fall off due to the increased weight of the car.
Not quite sure what you mean about liar's club.

Nobody's offered a scanned-in dyno sheet yet.

I guess there are too many lying POS's out there then. I happen to be a licensed Engineer (structural) and work closely with the owners of a race engineering shop, which is where my engines are broken in (on a dyno). Doesn't cost me a cent.
Furthermore, I only look at the numbers to see if my initial estimate is close to reality, and don't really give a darn about bragging. This is just a post for curiousity and novelty. Also, the website you provided does not allow enough for an accurate estimate, only a guesstimate. Consider this, if your car ran 12 sec 1/4's with 4.11 gears, would changing to 2.73 and losing 2 sec's cause a loss of hp at your engine? According to your website, it would.
I shall see if I can dig up the sheet to scan in for your pleasure, if not, I shall post the chassis dyno numbers as soon as the car is completed.

Lonestar; I'm curious about why your torque readings are so low with that kind of power at the flywheel? 300lbs of torque is a little low isn't it?

First, remember that this dyno run was a couple years ago when I actually built the engine, so the "a little over 300" figure is a recollection as I really didn't care about the torque. The engine was designed to put out max HP and nothing more. Short stroke combined with max airflow and a whole lot of cam (of my own design) means a lot of HP at a lot of RPM, but not much on the torque. This thing didn't even start making the power until 3500-4000 RPM.
Most people have the tendency to basically build engines of one design only, through other people's successes, where I like to completely redesign to my own liking, after all it is just a hobby. What this means is that most people constain themselves on already accepted designs, which severely limit the capabilities of themselves and their products.
I will try to find the numbers and scan in.

kd5boc,
Those are very nice numbers for a street driven car, congratulations. What kind of mpg are you pulling?

to be honest...i really haven't checked. LMAO

To me, gas is a necessity, and having a muscle car means it will have low mileage...for the payoff of good performance...especially with a hot cam and carb.

As soon as I get a chance to run a full tank (and pay to fill it up.) I'll let you guys know.

I would guess at about 12-15 for now...

Tom

It always cracked me up when people asked me what MPG I got with my old motor. I always told them, "I dont know, I just fill it when it gets low on gas"

Well I've got my 2nd best dyno sheet(can never find the good one when you need it) I just dont have a scanner YET I could try to take a picture of it but doubt that it would be readable.
