Open elemenet air cleaner

hey, does anyone know how open element air cleaners fall under california smog laws? Also, I guess you need extra hood clearance, correct?

California smog visual + open element air cleaner = instant fail.

A drop base style will fit under the stock hood.

ok, thanks for the heads up. But I guess it wouldn't be very hard to switch to a stock air cleaner for smog inspection.... Also, would having a homemade dual air snorkel equal an instant fail?

As long as it had the Thermovac system intact, they won't complain.

Of course, the better it looks, the less likely they'd be to notice.

Aren't you the guy that's building the home made dual snork?

I think most members on this board will agree that you'll get more cool air with that dual snork than an open element, in addition to the other problems with an open element.

If anyone cares, I've mostly finished my dual snorkel, there's a picture of it on the post I made about it.
