Vapor Lock

For those who have endured it, what kind of fix did you come up with? I've noted electric fuel pumps, wrapping the lines as well as keeping them away from heat sources, and using spacers. Is there anything else that might help?

Electric pusher pump, regulator with return line, shielding from heat sources.

The factory even had a kit to add a blower to run cooling air over the carb when the engine was off and hot.

What you mentioned is basically all you can do. Running an electric pump along with a return style mechanical pump works pretty good. Just take whatever steps you can to keep the fuel cooler and that should help.

I run an electric pump out back with a mechanical pump up front. I use a mallory 4309 return style regulator. I have wrapped all the fuel lines with heat wrap. Since that i am yet to experience vapor lock.

Removing sharp bends can also help remove vapor lock. They act just like restrictions and create low pressure areas. The lower the pressure the easier it is for the fuel to boil.

Stekman,

What electric pump are you using?

Is anyone old enough to remember putting clothes pins on the fuel line to cure the problem? What the heck was that all about?

I have heard of the clothespin deal. Forget why it was said that it helps.

I am using an external Carter electric pump out back and a new stock 3 port mechanical pump up front on mine.
