Ok, I just read the tech article and it still did not answer my guage question.

Will my guages still work when I delete the ECM?

Yes, they should still work. Knowing how much GM changes little things around each year, I would double check. Could have changed between 84 and 85.

If you are worried about it, you can just leave the ecm in the car and just clear the wires in the engine compartment. That's what I did in my 84 when I changed engines a few years ago.

All the gauges will work. Your 1985 has mechanincal speedo, tach wire must be cut and then attached to the prong on the new HEI distributor, water temp gauge hoods in the drivers side head...that still will work, and the oil pressure is on the back of the intake...it will also still work.

Long as you dont go crazy hacking wires and stuff your guages will work.

I know a guy who has a 92 RS...even with the electronic speedo his gauges still worked fine.

None of the gauges go through the computer....

Hell I don't even have the computer in the car anymore. BTW if you leave the computer in your check engine light will stay on. Take it out and your problems are solved...

If you decide to keep it for whatever reason just take the bulb out.
