What could have happened is a fire that burned your car to a crisp.

What carb are you using? Stock-type q-jet? Holley?

There should be a metal gasket between the fuel inlet nut and the carb body. There should not be any type of seal between the fuel line and the inlet nut - that's a flare that should be self-sealing. Teflon tape around the fuel line nut is not a good idea. Tape around the inlet nut may or may not work, but shreads of Teflon in the carb is often the result (which is why it's not a good idea there, either).

Get this fixed correctly. Hopefully the cause if the leak isn't a cracked carb.

it's a 4bbl q-jet and i see what your sayin about the teflon but it's the only way to get it to stop for right now i don't have the money to go get a new line or carb and everything is pretty jarey rigged any way so yeah i'll just got to the local u pull and see if i can find another q jet but i dunno y it would do that

Periods help sometimes, it's the button right next to the comma. Make sure you have respect for that fuel leak; things can get ugly fast. Fuel leaks are one thing that you cannot take lightly. I'd get it fixed correctly (teflon tape isn't it)..

i just went through this problem and didn't catch it right away. is it leaking right where the fuel inlet fitting is going into the bowl of your q jet?? if so i would inspect the threads on the inside of the carb where the fitting goes. most likely they are toast. if so there is no real good way of fixing this. some people say jb weld it into place or use a self tapping fitting. sure they may work for a while but it isn't the right way of doing it. frankly talking to all the carb shops in town they said i could buy another bowl but then i would just have a qjet still and may have the same prob. so i went to canadian tire and got a edelbrock performer 600cfm carb. its way nicer more power and wasn't that much.
