Demon w/ Air Gap Intake & Vacume Line

Has anyone had a problem getting a vacume fitting to fit under a demon carb with an air gap intake. This is for the power brakes line. The picture shows the inerference where I need about .25 inches more. I tried a couple 90 deg fittings the problem is that both requre an adaptor of some sort which adds to the stack height. I also tried a hose fitting but it also requires an adaptor.

Does this mean I need to get a spacer? I am allready concerned about hood clearance even with the low profile air cleaner I have.

Did you try one from an original intake that had a carb on it? I believe the 82-84's had the Rochester Quadrajet carb on them. I took mine off the original intake of my 82 Z-28 and put it on my Air Gap intake with the Holley carb. no problem..

why don't you grind down some of those threads to make the fitting effectively shorter so it'll thread in more closely to the base? that should give you the needed clearance.

why not use the 3/8" vacuum port on the back of the carb? If you already use it for PCV, just get a 3/8" T-fitting, and use it for both.

I started to consider grinding the threads down some my concern is I may not be able to get far enough down.

I also didn't think I would pull enough vacume from the carb if I used it for PCV too. Is that always the case or does it depend on the cam? This sounds like the easiest thing to do.

Thanks for the quick replys. I am almost ready to get out of the garage!

It should be fine. vacuum is vacuum, whether it comes from the intake manifold, or right under the throttle blade.

I have the same problem with the fitting. I bought a Edelbrock "low profile" fitting and still, the carb won't bolt all the way down. I also need about 1/4" more clearance.

And I presently have a T fitting for my PCV and brake booster. Vacuum is not vacuum. I think the brake booster needs it's own dedicated source.

If you hook it up that way, you'll notice that your brakes don't operate as easy as they used to, and if you really need to step on them, your car may stall. Mine did - twice. But only during a hard sudden stop.

I'm getting a 1/2 inch wood spacer for mine, and I'm just hoping I can still close my hood!

I've used a T on the fitting for the brake booster many many times, and never had a problem with it. Even with a big cam.

How about a pipe nipple about 2" long or so, and a union on the end of that?
