Can i put a fuel pump on my friends 89 rs 305. Not sure
if the cam has a lobe for the mechanical pump.
or do i have to go with a reg, we pulled the motor out to put in
his 81 chevy 4x4. it has no electric pump.
We put an intake with Q-JET and HEI,

The engine should have provisions for a mechanical fuel pump.
Yes, you can. The cam has a fuel pump eccentric, the block is drilled for the fule pump pushrod (which you'll need to buy one- they don't come with the pump). You'll also need a fuel pump plate for a carbureted engine (your stock FI one is just a flat plate- you need one with the oval hole in it to stick the fuel pump lever arm inside the engine). You bolt the carbureted fuel pump plate to the engine with the bottom 2 small blots and then bolt the fuel pump through the plate and into the block with the 2 bigger bolts that are supplied with the mechanical fule pump.
