Choke: Electric vs Manual?
I just got my 305 short block back, and now i'm waiting on my heads and I need to get headers and my intake.
I was looking at a 1406 edelbrock, but then I saw the 1405. 1405 is manual choke where as 1406 is electric, what does it mean by electric? I saw it said "Not for computer controlled vehicles" so i'm assuming something else.
I wont have a computer at all in this thing. Also, can some one recommend a place other than summit or jegs for a good price on these units? Jegs was cheapest of the two, but I was wanting a bit cheaper.
Thanks.

It is just that. A manual choke uses a cable and you manually open and close the choke plate. Electricity uses a 12v ign source to operate it.
Theres always eBay.

The electric choke is automatic as well, when it's properly adjusted you can pretty much forget about it.

I would recomend spending the extra $30-$40 to get an electric choke. I have had both- and I have found that the e-choke is not only much easier, but it saves gas. Once the e-choke is set properly, all it takes is 1-2 pushes on the gas, and the engine turns over and warms up perfectly. Once the engine is up to full operating temperature, once quick tap of the accelerator will drop the idle speed down to its proper level. Manual chokes can be frustrating to learn. Take it from someone who has seen both sides to the story.

the manual choke edlbrock is almost a different carb. the electric choke 1406 is a lean fuel economic carb were as the manual choke is more for performance. when i was choosing my carb for my first engine i went with the electric choke. great on gas and realy punchy down low on a 350, donno about a 305 tho.
thx
