Out of the box demon carbs are jeted richer than others. Demons are best for a car looking for optimum power at teh expense of fuel economy. For a daily driver id go with the q jet. For a race motor go with the demon.

I never own an holley or flavor thereof, so I cant tell you for sure. But I was told by a moderator here that the Jr version isnt worth having at all. IF you are spending the money dont consider anything under the speed demon. Some one will junp in and tell all the gory details why, I'm sure.

I wouldn't bother with a Demon Jr., or Street Avenger. If you "need" vacuum secondaries, go/stay with a q-jet.

If you're willing to put together a proper package, including cam, exhaust, converter stall (assuming auto tranny), etc., and you're primarily using the car for racing, then go with mechanical secondaries in either a Holley or Demon. Otherwise, it's hard to beat a q-jet.

My first recommendation would be the one that came on your '82 Z (assuming it wasn't crossfire).

If you don't have a carb now, but all of the computer controls are intact, you can pick up a good used computer controlled q-jet cheap - people are throwing them away all the time. Check the classifieds on this board.

If you don't have the computer controls, or you started out with crossfire, a used non-computer version is just as easy to find. Again, try the classifieds on this board. Don't forget you need a vacuum-mechanical advance distributor as well.

If you want new, the Edelbrock Performer Q-jet 1904 or 1906 would do the trick. Same thing about the distributor.

Or, you could get a remanufactured version of any of the above from most any parts store, Summit, Holley, Edelbrock, etc. You'll have to pay the core charge if you don't have one to give back.

Well, My car used to have the crossfire set up but not anymore, when I bought the car it had all of the computer stuff ripped out, right now I have a carb on my 350 (Holley Street Avenger 670) thats way to big for it and is causing bad fuel economy and pretty much everything that having too big of a carb on there can cause. I am going to throw a 305 in there because I need to drive back an forth to school everyday in it and want something that is a little less harmful on the wallet.

I am probably going to throw a summit cam in there and an edelbrok preformer intake, Just am having trouble with deciding on the carb.

I am probably going to be selling my Street Avenger in a Couple of months if anyones interested.

Thanks for the info Five7kid I appreciate it
