Adjusting Holley 750 DP

What's the proper way to tune a carb?
I'm running a 750 holley DP w/ mech. secondaries/ mech.choke on a 355, the problem is I cant seem to get it dialed in right.
If I turn the IAScrews out too much my car smokes. If I lean it too much it dies out and wont rev high enough.

Question isHOW do you adjust it properly, I mean w/ the vehicle on do you close the secondaries first then adjust the primaries?

Adjust them diagonaly(four corner idle screws)?
Can somebody chime in on how to properly go about this?

Sounds like you're trying to perform all the tuning fuctions with just the idle mixture adjustments.

Set the idle mixture screws for the maximum vacuum at idle, adjusting the primaries to the same amount out each (make it lean, the same amount out each, then turn them out in 1/4 turn increments until you're close). Repeat on the secondaries.

If it won't rev under power conditions, you've got a main jet tuning job ahead of you.

Thanks again five7, I got it fine tuned w/ a lil' trial and error involved. It runs stout now and summons smoke to the rear
meats under part throttle EASILY! All it took was time.

I plan on jetting the carb in a few weeks.
Results are to follow.DUECE
