New carb, high idle...

so i just got a new (well rebuilt) rochester q jet carb here. i put it on. my cars got a 305.

now my car idles way too high.

is it normal to adjust the timing when you put a new carb on? I didnt think it would be....

or maybe i should shorten the spring a bit?

also im not sure where to plug the line for the vacume advance. does anybody have a pic?

The timing shouldn't change. Have you tried turning down the idle speed?

i figured it out. my throtle cable was too short for this carb and it was holding the throttle open a bit. i feel stupid for not seeing this when i hooked it up.

so i followed the cable to the front of the engine bay and adjusted it. it has these metal ball things that snap into a clip.

thanks anyway tho.
