cc carb problem, guru's inside please...

i have a pretty big problem with my Z28. at higher RPM's in gear, usually the top end of second, it runs out of gas. i thought it was the fuel pump, but it seems more like a carb problem. it completely runs out of gas, no matter how much is in the tank. anyone ever had this problem with the CCCarb? if so, what was the problem? i am most likely installing a 650 Edelbrock, but still i am curious...

I vote for fuel pump.

a fuel pump should be more consistant...a carb problem would be off and on like this...at least i would think so...

If your fuel pump isn't delivering the required volume, you'll drain the bowl and run dry.

The closest it could possibly be to a carb problem is a plugged fuel filter. A weak fuel pump (or plugged fuel filter) will keep up when demand is low ("normal" driving), but not at WOT.

Been there, done that with a stock 1986 LG4. An AC replacement pump in Sept 1999 cured the problem, it's still on there today.

A 650 Edelbrock would be a BIG mistake. A smaller overall carb w/larger primaries, w/o feedback, no more TCC lockup, less power potential, poorer fuel economy - in the end you'd be $400-$500 poorer and still need a fuel pump.

Let's be clear on the operating theories here: The fuel pump on a carb'd engine doesn't do the same thing as the fuel pump on a fuel injected engine.

For FI, it has to supply pressure constantly, or the injection won't operate properly. (It's still possible to have a volume problem with a FI pump at WOT but not normally, though.)

With a carb, the fuel pump fills a reservior in the carb, then stops pumping (techinically, it returns the excess to the fuel tank, but that's what the carb sees). It doesn't operate on "pressure". The carb draws from the reservior as needed. When you get on it for a short time, it can lower the level in the reservior w/o depleting it, so it can seem to continue to run okay. But, if you stay in it, it'll go dry if the pump isn't keeping up. The worse the pump is, the sooner it will go dry. Mine would do it at the top end of 1st gear.

Replace the fuel filter at least - it'll probably continue to do it and you'll find you need a fuel pump, too.

you dont need to swap the carb. CC qjet is just fine for a 305.
