Car: 1986 Trans Am
Engine: 305 Carb
Transmission: 700R4 Overdrive
mixtor control
I have a 305 4bbl rodchester carb my problem is when i plug in the mixture controle selenoid the car is hard to start but if left uplugged it will start and run but i can smell the exhaust fumes bad its a rebulit unit and it sat for a year befor i ran it again. any suggestions on what the problem is.

It apparently is too lean with the solenoid trying to control the mixture.
Is the choke working as it is supposed to?
