Vacuum Questions

Hi,

Just a few (hopefully simple) questions.

First things first: 1986 LG4.

I have the hose routing diagram.

1. Both Vac switches are broken: EFE and EGR. Ordered a replacement for the EFE TVS but it doesn't seem to be right. It threads into the water neck just fine, but the ports seem too big. If anyone has a part # for either of these switches, please post it. If you have a link to somewhere I can buy it, even better.

2. AIR system on this car is gone. I have a smog pump lying around but I don't have the Air Mgmt valve. I'd rather not go through the trouble of installing all that unless I have to. Should I block off the line that goes to the AIR valve or route it somewhere else?

3. My EGR valve has 2 barbs to attach hoses, one on top and one on the side. The diagram only shows one hose. What do I do with this? I also have this other piece that looks just like the EGR valve in shape, but has nothing going to it. What is this thing? Is it the EFE because...

4. I can't find where the EFE is to connect the line from the EFE TVS.

That should take care of my vacuum questions.

Thanks.
-Matt

I have the hose routing diagram.

1. I have found rockauto.com to be a good source for parts and pictures of the parts.

2. AIR system on this car is gone.... It depends upon the inspection laws in CT. In PA where I live, the car will not pass inspection without all original emissions equipment installed. I found a good air management valve at the junk yard. The rockauto site lists them at around 350. Without the air management valve, there is no sense in installing the air pump.

3. My EGR valve has 2 barbs to attach hoses, ... I'm not sure about this. If the diagram under the hood only shows one line then perhaps someone has changed the EGR valve with one that is not for your car. Check the pictures at rockauto.

4. The EFE is a butterfly flap in the exhaust manifold ( passenger side on an 82 TA ). the vacuum is used to control the valve which causes more exhaust gas to get dirverted by the EGR when the car is cold which in turn causes the hot gases to better evaporate the fuel in the intake. If this valve has been taken off your car, you may need to get it from the junk yard. You won't find reference to it at parts stores. I think there is also an electric EFE system but I don't know on which models this was installed on.

That should take care of my vacuum questions.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. That rockauto.com site is awesome.

Just to make sure I'm reading the digram in the car correctly...
If I have no AIR system and no EFE(non-AIR headers), then the EFE TVS doesn't even need to be hooked up. So can I just run a hose from the PCV to the carb in that case?

That should be ok. Just make sure that there are no vacuum leaks. Good luck!
