It really all depends on the application its being used in ( cam size, converter, engine size, etc.) But I like my Performer RPM intake alot and it has recieved good reviews in super chevy and chevy high performence magazine. You should be able to run it with a drop base air cleaner without hood clearence probs, I am running a 14x3 filter with the stock hood. I would reccomend this as your first mod, you will want to get a full exhaust then you wil really benefit from the intake later on. Or you can do both at the same time and get a really big gain. Good Luck.

Do you have emissions? If so, the ZZ4 intake. Even if you don't, the ZZ4 is a great all around intake. I have one on my engine.

The RPM series are also great.

Alright then your on the right track, So I would look at the performer RPM or the ZZ4 like Stekman suggested if you can find it for the same price or better than the RPM intake. Good Luck.
