Problems with edelbrock 600
I am having a problem with my edelbrock carb.
I have a manual choke on mine. The problem is that when the car is warmed up enough and I open the choke the car dies.
while it is closed it idles fine at 900rpm.
I just changed my primary rods and jets and also my secondary jets. wouuld this cause this problem?
It worked fine before but ran really rich. I lived in wisconsin and moved to colorado so I stepped it down 8% leaner for altitude.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Don't know if this will be of use, but I'll take a crack at it. It is good to compensate for alttitude, but did you also take into account any changes in temp? I've read things like change the jet size for every 2000ft change in elevation OR 35* change in temp (this is an example, I don't know if it is correct for an Edelbrock). So if by increasing in elevation, the temp also dropped a certain amount, it might cancel each other out partially or completely. Since running with the choke closed works, try going one stage richer and observe changes. Edelbrocks are nice and simple to play with on the primary side even if you have to swap jets, so take small steps and drive it for a bit observing changes. I had a Edelbrock 750 on my 383 that I tuned. I thought that by climbing 4000 ft in elevation I'd need to lean it out, however it was colder and I didn't take that into account. But I eventually ended up right back at the baseline calibration! It worked best.

I called edelbrock and they said the same thing. I went 2% richer, theyby being 4% leaner than wisconsin altitude. Todays temp. was 63 and still the same result.
When I go back to original config. it fouls up plugs pretty bad.
I tried adjusting air/fuel mixture and advancing/retarding timing and nothing seems to help. I even pulled apart carb to see if something was clogged up and it looked clean.
It doens't make sense. I ran perfect in Wisconsin but here in colorado nothing.

Does it die right away when you open the choke?
Does the carb have an insulating spacer under it?
Does it just not hold an idle or does it die at higher throttle ranges too?

When I open the choke it completely dies. There is no spacer between the carb and the performer rpm intake.
The car holds an idle at 900rpm with choke closed and warming up. With the choke closed I can also rev to 5 grand with no problem.

I am assuming you have tried screwing in the idle speed screw in order to get the thing to keep alive without the choke, correct? Just covering the obvious to be sure. Does the manual choke have a fast idle cam? If it does than you should be idling slightly higher than 900 with the choke closed all the way. I think they are usually around 1500 rpm. That is what my old Edelbrock manual is saying (1500 rpm). Again, that is IF manual chokes have that feature, otherwise ignore this.
While it will likely be of no use for this problem, I remember hearing that when you go up in altitude your engine will produce less vacuum, and so your step-up springs might need to be adjusted accordingly. Just something to keep in mind once you get this figured out. I wish I had more insight on your problem though...keep us posted.

It sounds kinda like your secondaries are open a crack. Could that be?
Something to look at anyhow.
Or maybe something to do with that fast idle cam or idle speed adjust.
