Choke Question
Hi guys. First off, I know almost nothing about carbs, so please excuse my ignorance. I have an 84 Trans Am, 305, auto. Been having troubles with my carb, and after wasting money on having it rebuilt, got tired of messing with it and just bought a new one from AutoZone. Its still a Quadrajet.
Question is this, why is my "choke" light ALWAYS on now? I know the "Choke" light is actually the alternator light, but I'm pretty sure that is good, will get it checkd out at work tomorrow. And yes, there is 13v getting to the wire that plugs into the Choke thermostat. Car runs great, dont know about how well it starts cold yet, will also know that tomorrow morning. Any ideas? Thanks
Brian

well the choke light can be for multipule things, did you check your choke fuse? when i had my choke light problem it turned out the hood cowl solenoid went bad an was shorting to ground and poping the fuse.
Choke heater relay? Green relay behind the radio. Mine died and was buzzing. I just removed it and re-wired it so its always active. The only difference now is the choke is heated while the key is on but car off, instead of only while the car is running. Big deal, i guess it might be a problem if i leave the key on for 1/2 hour and its 0 degrees out.

Ok, so the beast started right up this morning on the first try with no problems. That hasnt happened for a while..... As far as the choke relay, wouldn't the wire going to the choke heater not get power if the relay was bad? Or does it just control voltage so it is supplied while the car is running? And I have no idea where the Choke fuse is, but same question. Would the choke heater still be geting power, while the car is running, if the fuse was blown? Thanks guys

Ok, alternator checked out good. Now the choke light is flickering off and on most of the time. If I keep a steady speed thru town, it stays off for the most part. On the highway, its flickering, goes out briefly, then back on. Any ideas?
