Carb wiring harness/emissions

The wiring harness in my 85 iroc is all messed up. Its missing some sensors and some of the connectors are melted and there is no air pump. My question is should I fix the harness and replace sensors and air pump, or is there a way to pass emissions without a wiring harness?

I have the stock quadrajet on the 305 H.O. Is this the only style carb I can use with emissions

tpi tech wiring harness

i purchased this harness for my 85 and it works great!!!! i have used painless before and for the price ($135) this thing is just as good as the painless.. uses high gage wire and is labeled every few inches very easy and "painless" install.

i used a holley speadbore and a weind intake.. it runs great.. i just got rid of all the harness equip ect... i custom fit my dash for autometer gauges.. looks and runs great. hope this helps.

Technically, the only legal carb is a factory computer-controlled q-jet.

Whether you can pass emissions in your area depends upon the rigor of the visual inspection and how tight the sniffer requirements are (you didn't say where you're from). Some places just look for a cat and do a basic sniffer. Other places, such as California and the Colorado front range, have visual inspections that will fail you for any piece of factory emissions or control equipment that is missing or replaced with a non-certified part, and a sniffer test that isn't easy to "fool".

I live in Southeast WI, all they do for emissions is hook the sniffer to the exhuast and check the gas cap.

Is that a complete wiring harness? I take it doesnt include the stuff I would need for emissions?

Do they check for NOx? That's one that will often get people.

A.I.R. makes it a lot easier to pass. A fresh cat with a well-tuned carb can get by without it.

You might want to search/post on the Classifieds for a wiring harness. Wouldn't surprise me that someone has one laying around that hasn't been molested.

Could I get pass emissions without all of that computer junk with a well tuned carb? Could I have A.I.R. w/o the computer and pass?

Depends upon how they conduct the testing in your area. The actual sniffer requirements vary from area to area. Some places (like California and the Colorado front range) have a strict visual inspection that requires the original type of equipment that the factory certified, regardless of the sniffer results.

Computer controls aren't junk. Get over it.

I'm just saying that it would be much simpler for if I didnt have all the wiring under the hood.
