Idle mixture screw broke.....help!
.......So I had my carb rebuilt and had the idle mixture plugs removed so I could adjust them. Car was running too rich. The right side adjusted fine but the left side was snug to turn. As I was turning it in, well if it didn't break. What am I up against? Will an easy out work? Any help would be great. Thanks.......Zapr.

Q-jet? It's not too bad, it's brass, so when're they're seized, they're relatively easy to get out...
Remove the carb from engine, and get some needle nose pliers, you should be good to go... How much broke off? you might still be able to use your adjusting tool....
Or else you're stuck drilling, tapping right-handedly, and turning out....

........yeh, it's a Q-jet. The head broke right off. there's about 2mm of thread on the head end of it. Do you think there will be enough sticking out on the carb that I'll be able to grab it with some needle nose? Thanks for the help.........Zapr.

oh.. hmm, doubt it then....
You musta really been reefin' on it... I guess your choices are now:
- Take off car and inspect closer
- try pliers
- if not, either drill small, left handed tap with say 5-40 or something, left handed screw, to turn in, then turn until screw comes out...
- drill out completely to .090 or so, tap with new threads of some kind, and put in a new mixture screw....
My suggestions aren't the best, maybe someone else has a better idea, I can see these getting ugly fast.

.......I like the left handed screw idea the best. Like I say, the mixture screw was snug, not tight, I think I can get it out. I just might leave it for the summer and take it off in the winter. I was able to turn it in about two turns be fore it broke, leaned out some what. The other side turned easy. I turned it in all the way, then backed it out three turns and set it from there. I was going to do the same with the one that broke. I should have backed it out first, wd-40, then turned it in. I should have known better. Thanks for your help........Zapr.
