Carb or Computer?
I have been having trouble with my carb from day one, it was spewing out gas really bad when I first got it. I had it rebuilt and then my car wouldn't stay running. I took it back to the guy that rebuilt it and he said that it was the computer's fault because it wasn't advancing enough and it WAS getting enough fuel. I took it to someone else to try and fix the problem but they just made it run as rich as possible, it runs now but it hesistates at take off and it leans out and the check engine light comes on.
I don't want to cover up the problem by making it run rich. I just want it to run normally and more fuel efficent.
I don't know if this is the carburetor's fault or the computer, how can I tell?

The first thing you need to do is find out what is causing the check engine light to come on. Pull the trouble code from the ECM. If you don't know how to do this, here are some directions:
1. Take a small length of wire and jump the last 2 terminals(A & B) on the diagnotic port under the steering wheel.
2. Turn the ignition to "On"(DO NOT START THE CAR)
3. The check engine light will initially flash "code 12," indicating that the diagnostic system is working. Code 12 will consist of one flash, followed by 2 quick flashes.
4. After that, the check engine light will flash any other codes it has stored. Once all codes have flashed, it will cycle back to code 12.
5. When you get the trouble code, look it up in a Haynes manual or post it on here and we can tell you what it is.
