heat riser question
Need some help with making a decision. I'm currently building a 383 for the street/strip. No emissions or anything the like. This will be a weekend/summer car only, no winter or bad wheather driving (which kinda limits me in ohio I know).
I'm ordering a set of AFR 195 heads that come with a heat riser. Do I really need the heat riser? I'll be using an airgap manifold and a 750 carb. If it takes a little more time for warm up, so be it. I've heard of people blocking these off? Can I order the 195's without the heat riser? Is a heat riser necessary for an "offroad"-type carb setup?
Thanks...

I have them blocked off on the 396. I've blocked them off on 350s before.
Not really needed for a summer car.

Thanks for the reply,
The manifold I'm going to use blocks them off so I guess I don't need a block off plate or anything. What I'm still confused about is the path in the head. Is there a "hole" in a exhuast port that routes it back toward the manifold?

Yes. Some heads require the hole to be drilled if you want that function. I've never dealt with AFR's, though.
