stock q-jet on a 357

the motor in my 87 blew out about a month ago. I have since been rebuilding a 350 block I was given. i had it bored .40 over and built the new motor from the ground up. It is currently in the car and has a street dominater spread bore intake and the stock 305 cc Q-jet on it. I like having the Q-jet's economy and perfomance, but I don't like the mess of vacuum lines and wires. can I tune the stock Q-jet or do I need to pull one of a mid 70's 350? I don't want the carb to run the motor to lean!

You need to match your carb to your distributor (either cc or non-cc), so if you yank one from a '70s vehicle, you'll need the dist with it. (unless you already have a non-cc dizzy, then yes, you need the older style carb...)

You sure can tune either q-jet to suit your needs, I just don't think your selection of rods/jets are as good with a cc carb, (primary)....

I just really don't want to be to lean for the bigger motor! I've never rejetted/ changed rods in a q-jet. Any recomendations?

The stock Qjet will be fine after tuning.

Start with whatever you've got now and see how that does to start.

The good ol' DR rods seem to be doing my 350 just fine, although I haven't gotten into it up to redline yet. The little bit I've had the secondaries engaged, it picked right up. If it's lean, it'll probably be lean when the secondaries first open, so that's a good indication.
