choke light does not come on

Hey guys.. looking for a little help.

My car has been idling high lately due to th high idle cam holding the throttle open when it shouldn't. In trying to figure out why, I noticed the choke light no longer lights on the dash when I first turn the key. There is 12V at the connector at the choke. What should I check???

Thanks in advance-

Bj

BTW: It's a 305 w/ a feedback Q-jet.

The choke coil should only have about 5-10 ohms resistance. Check that. If it's way north of that you need a new choke element.

Also, check voltage at the choke connector WHILE IT"S PLUGGED ONTO THE CHOKE. In other words, when it's "under load" and powering the choke element. I've run into a few that are 12V at the connector when it's just hanging in mid air but drop down to just about nothing when hooked up to the choke element. You want it to hold pretty close to 12V even when it's connected to the choke element.

Damon,

Thanks for the info. I will try it. The light came on the other day, seems like it may be intermittent, so I'll have to catch it at the right time...
