what is this part in L69 AIR CLEANER

what is this for, seems it would flow better if removed?

"It's a charcoal bed to absorb fuel vapors that come out of the carb fuel bowl vent when the engine isn't running. When the engine is started again, the incoming air pulls the vapors back out of the charcoal."

remove or not to remove......that is the question........my stock air cleaner doesnt have one.
