Need Help Buying New Carb
I have decided to buy a new carb to replace my current H.O. Q-Jet. At the moment i am running a 83 Camaro Z-28 305. The Carb is computer controlled with (i think) vacuum secondaries and a electric choke. I want to replace it with a holley but i have no idea whats best. I do have a carb in mind but i dont know if the 305 would take 750 cfm well. I have vacuum hoses all over the place. by changing the carb would that mess up the car. Any sugesstions?

Unless you have a specific reason why you want to replace the CC Q-Jet, you will be wasting alot of money on something that will bring you little gain in horsepower. Trust me, I've been down this road. If you replace the CC carb, you must replace the distributor as well. You would need an adapter plate to fit your squarebore Holley onto the spreadbore stock manifold. Then, you will need a TCC retrofit kit to retain torque convertor lockup. The stock Q-Jet can flow up to 750 cfm- more than you need for a 305. If the carb is not working properly, rebuild it for $20 and spend your money on something that will improve your horsepower like headers or cam.

Well thanks for that advice. I guess i will stay stock. The only problem is that the carb has been rebuilt and they deemed it trash even after that. I was stuck between buy a new q-jet or a holley but i now see i will stay with the q-jet. Thaks again for saving me money and the hastle.

Do you have emissions testing/inspection to go through? If so, the computer controlled q-jet is your best, and perhaps your only, option.
If the carb, even "rebuilt", is FUBAR, then it would still be cheaper to get another professionally rebuilt CC q-jet (read: parts store carb) than it would to get a new aftermarket carb/distributor.

oh yes i have emmissions. thats part of the reason i am staying with the q-jet now. i blew the emmissions by 150 pts and was putting out more than twice the hydrocarbons. I had to get a waiver. lol

One more question. i am having trouble finding a computer controlled q-jet. I did find a very close model like i have now but its not computer controlled(its missing 2 connector sockets) . Is this ok or will it mess my car up? (happy?)

If it's not computer controlled, it's not the "exact model" you have. All the comments above about non-computer carbs apply.
