Still got the computer in the car or do you want to run a stand alone MSD?

Search on "HEI", then on part type, click on "Distributors", "Chevrolet", "V8", "Vacuum and mechanical".

I'd suggest an MSD distributor. They make one thats a drop in replacement and does not require an ignition box. Its made to replace both the old points distributors and HEI distributors as well. Unlike HEI, this distributor uses an external coil, so you need one of those as well, and find a place to mount it.

The MSD part number is 8360

The link brings up a list of different parts. Which p/n do you mean?

I still think that MSD distributor would be a great one for you to use. You can check it out at Summit with p/n "MSD-8360"

There are two... you dont want the marine version.

i'd prefer not to have the external coil.

Not really. Their website is weird about copying URLs sometimes.

The SUM-850001R is probably a better deal for the price. The MSD is good but it's hard to justify spending twice as much for it and then you still have to buy a coil.

thanks for the help guys. i totally forgot about the distributer until after i ordered the other stuff ( carb and spacer). now all i have left is to order my headers, then im doing the carb swap and the full exaust from headers back swap. i cant wait, should get some good gains. i could have just rebuilt the quadrajet but for future the non CC carb will be nice to have to get a cleaner engine bay and whatnot.

PS - its a goodwrench 350, formally an LG4 . the new exaust alone should be killer.

dont i need an inline fuel filter too? ive been told the rochsters have the fuel filter built into it, whereas the edelbrock does not. thanx

yah you will need an inline filter......i think that all aftermarket carbs require an inline filter....i know that edelbrock and holley do for sure....

Look up a fuel filter for a '69 Hemi Charger... that uses an inline filter thats fairly small, but flows well enough for a pretty healthy SBC.

I bought the summit brand HEI w/ polished housing and the shaft seperated from the rotor mount! It was a royal pain to diagnose the problem and I ended up replacing the coil and module before gettting it figured out. They wouldn't help me out because it was past the 90days warrenty so I'd reccommend the msd, mallory, or upgrade a used hei from the junkyard before buying the summit brand.

You might be fine with yours though, someone probably just fell asleep on the production line and every company gets quality control problems.. if you ever get an intermittent timing problem you'll know what it is!
