Gotta Huge Question..
Alright every thread here is TPI to carb or Vice versa, i dint find too many TBI to carb. So, maybe i can get something going.
my camaro had a 305 TBI, Automatic 700r4 which i plan to keep for a bit longer..
I have a 1988 camaro with a 350 TBI out of a 1988 pickup, it was rebuilt and put into the camaro.. Then I bought it, has 30,000 miles on it..
TBI has good MPG and decent MPH, ive hit 100+ speedo only read to 100.. I want More HP and MPH on the track and want to be a Bit quicker..
What i am looking at, I need a New Everything, I am not sure on what to get, but mpg would be nice to stay in double digits.. I believe i have center bolt heads.. however if the valve covers are bolted on by the top.. Thats what i got..
all i need is a direction to be pointed in..

As bad as i would like that.. I gotta say no..
and how much of a diffrence is there between a 650 to a 600CFM? I know! 50cfm, which isnt too much of a loss!?!?
and how would i get the manual or electric choke to work?
looking at this one.. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...chItemId=11347

Before swapping to a carb, first change out the exhaust from the headers all the way to a catback and hi-flow cat. Then do the ultimate TBI mods listed in the tech articles. If you're still not happy then I would do the carb swap, which will lead to emissions problems as well.

The only difference in swapping to carb from TBI or TPI is that the stuff you take off and throw in the trash looks different.
A manual choke carb needs a cable routed through the firewall to the interior where you can operate it with a ****. An electric choke just needs to be connected to a +12V source when the engine is running.

It's a lot more feasible to just run a regulator with the low-pressure TBI in tank pump than with a TPI pump though. That's effectively what GM did when they had the ZZ4 conversion kit available--TBI-style pump with a regulator.

Well theres nothing like the sound of a crabed engine, and i do have an decent exhaust system, its 2 1/4 inlet 3" oulet cat and then 3"all the way back, i have a Turbo series mufller which sounds good.. but i want a the old type of muscle car, that is only with a carb.. FI isnt so muscle like.. Not TBI anyway..

My TBI sounds basically no different than the Q-Jet that it replaced. Complete with the deep growl when you hammer the gas.
The throttle response is faster than a carb could ever think about as well.

so you are saying the TBI has potential? More than a 600cfm 4bbl edelbrock performer carb?

Make sure that you have atleast 350 injectors and prom chip, I bet the 350 was swapped under 305 stuff.

FWIW, I swapped carb to TBI. Removed the edelbrock 1405, bolted an adapter plate onto my performer RPM intake, bolted on the TBI, then plumbed and wired the system. Mounted the sensors and swapped out the distributer. It fired on the first twist of the key. Found out that the old style heads wanted more timing and more fuel. Bumped the timing to 6* BTDC and raised the fuel pressure to 15 psi, then swapped in 350 injectors. Lost NO HP and gained low-mid range torque, fuel mileage, and cleaned up the emissions. This was on a 180 HP 1983 305 using the stock 305 chip. It was making close to 180 RWHP and 250 ft/lbs. I swapped cams to a RV cam made by federal mogul. I then had TBI chips.com burn me a chip (mistake). Ran it like that for a while. Spun a rod bearing on the 200,000+ mile shortblock. Built a 350, used the intake, similar cam from mellings, 305 HO heads, the performer rpm intake, TBI (350 injectors, Stock 350 chip, 350 knock sensor, etc.)
