Unbelievable but true!

All of the posts I have made telling of my woes which I thought came from a junk carb or not timed properly ends up being something no one mentioned. My charcoal canister broke internally and the carb sucked a bunch of charcoal into it and plugged the jets! Never would have thought of that one.I Hope someone else chasing "phantoms" starts to think outside the"box".

Yep, just a box of idiots here. . .

Diagnosing long-distance is always difficult. About all you can cover is the "standard" stuff. As our cars age, new things are popping up (there's another thread regarding the canister & emissions test failure).

One of the problems with trying to idiot-proof the world is nature keeps producing better idiots.

Apparently, the point I tried to convey(unsuccessfully) was that in spite of all the knowledgable people out there that have encountered problems with their cars, their may be something thrown into the mix that would not be considered, under normal conditions. As previously stated, with my car being "salvaged",I am sure things were damaged that wouldn't normally be questioned. I was simply trying to offer some feedback in the event others encountered some of the same problem as me.

PonchoEsteban,

I'm sure that 5-7 got your meaning. He was simply reiterating the point that we sometimes need to think beyond convention, and look "outside the box" more frequently.

You're absolutely right. No one would normally jump right to the possibility of a disintegrating charcoal bed clogging the jets and coating the bottom of the fuel bowl. I wouldn't have dreamed that one up, but it certainly opens some eyes to the possibilities. I'll bet that most of us normally think of fuel entering the carb as being filterted, but that's one avenue that goes right past the normal filter.

Fortunately, you should be able to easily clean out the debris, blow out all the passages, and restore the carb operation to like new (if you haven't aleady done so).

That's certainly an odd one, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who is glad you found it, and reported it back here so we can all expand our thinking a bit.

I AM GOING TO PUT AN INLINE FUEL FILTER ON THE 3/8 LINE TO THE CARB AND THAT SHOULD PUT MY MIND AT EASE AS FAR AS HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT SUCH THINGS AGAIN. OODLY ENOUGH I HAVE SPOKEN TO SEVERAL PEOPLE NOW, WHO HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN AS I DID. I GUESS IT WASN'T ANYTHING TOO UNIQUE!
