How to adjust CCC Qjet TPS

Hi guys, I just rebuilt a CCC Qjet for my 305. I have not run it yet, but I have a couple quick questions:

1. What should the TPS read at idle ,with the throttle kicker off
2. How do I adjust the TPS if it is significantly out of spec?

Also, I do not have a stock wiring harness. How do I check dwell on the mixture control solenoid, since I do not have the factory disconnect point where you would insert the dwell meter? I do know you use the 6 cyl setting

Once the engine is fully warmed and the curb idle is set (A/C off, follow VECI label instructions) the TPS should be 0.48VDC, ±0.06. You'll need a 2.5mm hex socket with a very thin wall.

kboehringer posted in an earlier thread a method to backprobe at the MCS for dwell. Try:

I saw that post. He says he "thinks" you probe to pin B on the MCS. Where does the other wire on the dwell meter go, ground? Which pin is "B" on the MCS, I didn't see that they were labeled (unless the labeling is on the plug itself)

I would assume pin B is the middle pin and the other lead for the meter goes to any available ground. Might want to PM Kboe to make sure. I don't have my manuals with me.

I think the MCS only has two wires. Connect the dwell meter to the hot wire and the other to ground.

Yeah it is two wires. 8492bird is right.

You'll find MC solenoid adjustment procedures buried in this thread:

When you said you dont have a factory wiring harness, what kind of harness do you have? I need a new one because mine is shot to hell! It spliced everywhere, some stuff is missing. I really need a new one!

You should be probing the middle wire on the TPS for TPS voltage. If you're adjusting M/C dwell, use an analog TAC/Dwell meter set to dwell 6 cylinder. It should fluctuate between 35 and 45 degrees.

Camaroracer I wired by hand, one at a time, with a wiring diagram. Works for me.

Use pin "B" (it's labeled on the connector)
Try a paper clip slid into the rear of the connector, works great.
Other wire goes to ground.

when you pull the little plug that covers the TPS adjustment screw, use a left handed drill bit to drill a hole in it.
if you use a standard bit, when the bit binds up in the plug it will run the adjustment screw in too far & you will have one hell of a time getting it back out. with a left handed bit when it binds it will back the screw out & you can just put it back in.
i said when because after years doing a lot of CC carb overhauls i know that odds are it will bind just as the bit breaks through the plug.

There really aren't that many wires on these cars, this is pretty simple wiring. I am used to TPIs that have a lot more wires, so this stuff was a welcome change.
