Adjusting TPS
Yes I read the Tech Article on how to do it. https://www.thirdgen.org/tpimod2
I have a question though: Are the jumper wires necessary? Can't you just stick the Volt-meters probes in the connector to read it?

My wife sews. I stole a couple of her straight pins (with the plastic ball on the end) for that purpose. Used them Sunday on a different application (Bonneville), in fact.
The connector is a little too well insulated to just use the multimeter probes (that I have, anyway).

Wow ok, nvm I don't have TPI...
Anyway...onto adjusting the IAC, I can't seem to find the adjustment screw for it...

That tech article is for TPI, not carb. There's a screw by the accelerator pump arm under a no-tamper plug for adjusting it on the carb.
Your best bet would be to invest $15-$20 in a Rochester book, either the Doug Roe version or the Haynes shop manual. Both cover this and a whole lot more.

Well upon snooping I found something that might contribute to my high idle.

MATS sensor, or atleast where it should be, correct?
And here is the thermostat housing, what is that other plug?

I can't find any other plugs for the MATS or for the additional plug on the thermostat housing.

There is no MAT sensor, there is a MAP sensor on the firewall in the rear driver's side corner. What you're missing there is a thermal vacuum switch. Looking at the vacuum diagram thread on the FAQ forum ( https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...se-routing.jpg ), you'll see that the one mounted on the manifold is the purge TVS, which in conjuction with the canister control valve, operates the purge for the charcoal vapor canister.
The one on the thermostat housing is another TVS, this one for the EFE valve (Early Fuel Evaporation), the valve on the passenger side exhaust manifold.
Unless you have a vacuum leak, neither one of those should contribute to a high idle.

hi guys,
i'm currently getting confused about the map sensor, btw i have a 84 ta.
i know there is a barometric sensor and a map sensor, but which is what and where?
57kid you say the map is on the driver side, is this on later models only? i'm not sure but i think mine is at the passenger side like on this photo:
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...mapbracket.jpg
could someone tell me where the barometric sensor is? this is the sensor to which the map is compared to..
thx, greetz

The one you pictured is the barometric pressure sensor. I see it has a vacuum line on it, it's supposed to have a foam filter on it. The two look the same, the connectors are the same, the baro sensor has a nipple on it just like the MAP sensor after the foam breaks down and falls off, etc.

hi, just coming from the garage, i just discovered the real map / vac sensor on my 84 ta is on the right driver side near the firewall.. i was a bit confused because the sensor in the pic had a hose attached although the baro is not supposed to have one.. are map and baro sensor the same part?

They look the same, but they're different part numbers.
