old school
i was just wondering how to convert my car to an old school carb setup. i want to get rid of all of the wiring that i have under my hood, plus i want to do a 454 swap, how do i go about this, it it just a metter of ripping all of the wiring out, or is it alot more complicated then that? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I hope you're talking about the same action. Doing one and then the other would pretty much be a waste of time.
It would be as easy as taking out the 305 and putting in the 454. you'll have to run a different fuel pump if its currently FI. The fuel pressure would be to much for a carb. Bypass your computer or remove it if you wish. Just remember when you beef up the motor, or change it in your case you have to make sure the trans, rear en can handle it. New exhaust would be needed as well.
As far as fitment goes, it fits like a glove.

the car is an 85 berlinetta, and it did have a 305 with a carb, but just as far as getting the computer out of the car, what steps do i need to take to do that? if taking the computer out means that the 454 will have more potential then thats what i want to do, because some people have told me that i would be wasting my time putting a 454 in because the computer wouldnt work with it.
You wouldn't need the computer. Think of a 68 Camaro, it didn't have a computer. It would be the same for your conversion. Your car uses a computer because it is designed to run with one. When you convert to a 454 you can run a Holley carb, mechanical fuel pump, Mallory distributor or MSD, or HEI none of these require computers. If you try to run the same carb and ignition system you would have problems. Its going to cost you a few bucks to do it but its not as hard as it sounds

simple
remove that big fat harness on the passenger side running between the fender and the cowl and that runs to the ECM mounted in the pass side kick panel
simple
its separate from the engine harness for the starter and HEI and temperature sender and oil sender and a/c system and all that
very simple easy removal
