First, I would strongly discourage you from doing that.

But, if you insist, search on the Engine Swap forum, especially the "Father/Son" sticky at the top. They repaired someone else's hack job.

And, no matter how well you do it, it is still a hack job, IMHO.

If you plan on pulling the pump numerous times in the future then it may make sense, but it's quicker to drop the tank once than the cut an access hole the proper way.

this is OT but greeze you have a BEAUTIFUL Z28!

and back on topic...PLEASE don't do this to your car...it is a unibody structure and this really isn't good for the overall sturdiness of the chassis. not to mention it's the lazy man's way out of a simple job...

Thanks!! I`m glad someone likes it check that cardomain site in a few weeks, the car has had some major changes lately! I kinda agree with you along with the majority here, for a daily driver it`s not a good thing but for a "pro street" it might just be fine. I`m only guessing but I think the poster is putting together a fairly potent car

you're welcome, it is a really pretty car that is deviously stock looking . and yes, reading the specs it sounds like the poster is gonna have a beast on his hands!

its not too bad...just gotta get a pair of pliers and GENTLY turn 'em back and forth to break 'em loose then with a little force (due to the metal lines pushing against them) just slide 'em back...

good luck however you decide to do it!

Do not cut a hole. Cut an "opening"

In my opinion, if I saw a car with this done, or if the owner told me that he did this, I would think twice about even being seen with his again. That is probably one of the laziest things you can do. How hard is it to drop the tank? (Answer: NOT THAT HARD)

This has been debated a million times. I will cut an acess panel before I hack up my exhaust system to get my tank down. Some people have welded exhaust which makes the tank more tricky.

there are so many factors u could argue for or against the access panel, but i have still never seen ne one complain of negaive effects of cutting the access panel.........

honestly...i have had a car with an "access hacking" (i call it that because this one LITERALLY looked like someone had RIPPED it apart...), it really didn't make any difference...but i still don't like cutting into the car unless i just have to...guess it really doesn't matter though

Take everything you hear here with a big truck load of salt.

I did the same

Half the sites said it was dumb and my car is gonna fall apart now causes they are so weak back there. And other half said when I installed my RSTB [rear shock tower brace] that it was also dumb because the cars are so stiff it doesn't do anything.

tips:

That how I did it also. Hacked a hole in the back and cut the lines. There is a place down farther to remove lines right but its for when ya pull the tank. So ya gotta cut the lines.

I used steel braided rubber line to put them back together. Use double clamps on both ends and crank it down. Folks have done that for years with just regular rubber on tranny lines. Mucho higher pressures.

If you use just reg rubber the sharp bends can make the hose wanna kinda kink over. Put a hose clamp or two in that spot and just tighten them down enough to make the line stay a nice circle.

in 2000 they finally put a hole back there standard in the 4th gen then cancled the line.

My fuel filter is also like that. I use the same big canaster filter but one with nippled ends. Using steel braided rubber line and double clamps on each end.
Stock flared ones twisted off.

Though like above my car has front n rear STB and the entire car has been re-welded when it was gutted. No more cheesy spot welds holding my car together.

actually, I searched for this topic for that very reason... seems stupid to cut up my exhaust, when a well-executed access hole could come in handy in the future...
