Fuel Pressure Problems
Hi All Well I got the carb all hooked up and it's looking good !!!! BUT when I turn the key the pressure goes to 15lbs and floods the carb like now..When it was first installed I got it to fire up once ..I think because of no pressure in the lines yet...Anyway I have a Mallory 3 port return style...The adjusting screw is turned all the way out...I have the fuel line which is the larger hose connected to the in and the smaller hose to the bottom return...I have no leaks and it appears to be hooked up correctly...Why can't the pressure be regulated down to 6 lbs???..Pretty sure that's why it wont start now..Just Cranks...

you need to make sure that the regulator CAN be adjusted to 6psi. what fuel pump do you have? even with a slightly higher fuel pressure the car will still start.

Stock in tank TPI fuel pump..Which mean it makes 35-40 lbs...When I try to start the car I smell gas after a couple of cranks..when the key is turned to on position the pressure is 15lbs..Do I need a Different Reg..??A little confused since it did start and stumble then die ..but the carb was just put on and hooked up..no start after that..justa strong gas smell when cranking..

O.K. Tried it again this time with the screw all the way out...still no start and Heavy gas smell but not all over the carb and Manifold ..with the screw turned in a little it just dumps fuel everywhere out the carb...Maybe fuel pump has too much pressure ?? The Reg says no more than 200gph..I'm not sure what is in the tank...I'm gonna take the plugs out and blow them off and check spark because I flooded the heck out of it.. but I know the pressure is too high...What do I do Next

not to question you, but are you sure that the bottom port is the return and not the feed in? if it is the feed in, that means that you have the full pressure of the pump going through the regulator and straight to the carb, minus a little that is allowed to pass back to the tank, through the return line. i could be way off here because i do not run a return style regulator, just a regular one and the "IN" is on the bottom, but its all i can think of.

Now ya got me digging for the instructions!!!! Anyway It's hooked up right the book says can only support F/P up to 200gph Ive got a 255..The lowest pressure I can get is 12lbs and I can see the carb leaking...So I think I gotta get a 150gph in tank F/P.......Thanks All
