With regard to power, most anything other than the stock q-jet on a 305 is a waste of time and money.
Just trying to save you some of both.

a non CC Q jet is the way to go
who says Q jet cant wont race ?
they run great, vacuum secondaries, alot have electric choke, great throttle response, better fuel mileage, metered seconaries, and so on
youre missing out if you go to some aftermarket gas hog of a carb(without properly jetting and tuning it to you engine, in which virtually no one does, and instead runs them straight out of the box)
good luck

I'll take that one step farther - who says a CC q-jet can't race?
Last season, my son ran my Camaro for his "Intro to Drag Racing 101". One weekend, he was out of town, so I ran it (along with the '57 in another class). I went to the finals in an 8-round elimination, and the only reason I runnered-up is the other finalist was a friend who was in the season points chase, so I deliberatly red-lit for him.
Unless racing is the primary use for the car, replacing the stock carb is a waste of performance $'s. Personally, those P$'s are a precious commodity - maybe it isn't for others, though.
