Re: Carb caught fire

Yeah you can only have the fuel pump wired into a keyed power source (so that the pump only turns on when the key is turned)

What I did with my TPI swap, was tap the green and white wire from the relay into a 12v ignition source (i used the slot where my fuel injector fuses were...didnt need those anymore). My reading was somewhat below 12v though, but the pump still delivers the pressure I need, so I am happy.

Re: Carb caught fire

Man your lucky that is all you lost. Same thing happened to mine, only more severe...lol

Wish I had a shot of the motor still...god it was FUBAR!

Lost a 305, all the underhood wiring, HVAC, and obviously a bunch of other crap. I have quite the white trashy car, considering its being driven with a nice big burn mark on the hood.

Then when I went to start my car about half an hour later, it wouldn't start and then I saw the flames. I had the pedal to the floor trying to start it and get the flames sucked in but wouldn't. Finally i was smart enough to pull the wire for pump and the flames went down. Lost my air cleaner, everything else looks fine the carb is litte dirty. I am gonna lower the fuel pressure too, is it gonna be ok to start it up again?

btw I never heard the engine backfire or miss, just flames.
if your car has too much fuel pressure or the float is set wrong the fuel will come to the top of the carb and will catch fire. I had my float set wrong and went to start it and fuel had soaked my air cleaner gasket luckily i was looking at the motor when i went to start it.
