fuel milage

I'm about to drive from Texas to Maryland in my '84 T/A it has the original 305 which was rebuilt by the previous owner who I assume used a stock rebuild kit, topped off with a edelbrock performer intake and 600cfm carb. Is there anything i can do for the trip tuning wise to get better gas milage?

Re: fuel milage

basic maintenance...oil change, plugs, make sure the air cleaner isn't filthy. And don't use the AC.

Re: fuel milage

You've got the same setup as me stock 305 with a T5 trans. I've got a holley SA 670 carb dominator intake and x-stream air filter and I get about 30-35 MPG on the hi way. depending on driving conditions. Can't get much better than that with these cars.

Re: fuel milage

I don't know how I get it. LOL. I've got a holley 670 Street Avenger, that actually helps a bit as apposed to a stocker. I've done a lot of maintenance to the engine too. Getting the timing just right....I honestly just don't know how I've got that much. When I first clocked it I was amazed that I was getting such awesome gas milage. If I knew I'd share the secret. My auto v6 bird only got 12mpg lol.

Re: fuel milage

The street avenger is around $360 depending on manual or electric choke. It's a really good carb. Summit says it delivers 10% better fuel econemy. It must. I think those carbs are amazing.
