is the swap worth it?
i've been reading posts for the last two weeks and they are all going back and forth to which is better. i'm building a 1992 trans am it has the t-5 trans, i would like to build a 406 to drop into it and i am being told different things. the car is now a tpi i thought about using a hsr but than i was told that it is cheaper to just convert to carb and i can get more power out of carb for less, is this true. is doing the swap worth it?

I love my 383 holley carbed setup. That said. Do you have emissions testing? Do you mind a little extra warmup time for the carbed setup? Do you drive this vehicle daily? What is the average outside temps will you see?
I would not build a carbed setup for a true daily driver you are just giving up to much comfort. The hop in and start up and drive off when the temps are cool is somthing I miss, but I have three cars so this is really not an issue.. Unless you can tune fuel injection or you have someone that can or you build a really tame 406, you will need extensive tuning and thats why I went carb. I did not want to pay someone to make my car run right. Nobody in my area does that stuff so it would have been all mail order and i am not fond of this route.

Re: is the swap worth it?
i have a guaranty pass for emissions
so that is not a worry, i always give my cars atleast 10mins warmup time before i go somewhere and i am used to the warmup from my old 1985 k5 blazer and the 1980olds cutlass i had they both were carbed 350 sbc, the trans am is actually my first fuel injected car, its going to be more of a weekend driver shows races etc. and i'm in jersey so the temp is all over the place and i would probably have to go mail order which is just another thing leaning me towards carb.
